Madrid Named Best City To Work From Remotely
Posted on October 27, 2020
A recent survey from international relocating comparison site MoverDB has revealed that the best city in the world from which expats can work remotely is Madrid.
The study looked for the best international locations from which expats can work remotely post-pandemic, taking into account safety, quality of life, cost of living, salary, work-life balance and the percentage of expats currently residing there.
The Spanish capital claimed the title thanks to high rankings in work opportunities, health, happiness, and overall satisfaction.
A spokesperson for MoverDB said: “The city is steeped in culture and history with strong support networks available for new residents as well as a high life expectancy and one of the best healthcare systems in the world.”
Madrid is known for its reliable and affordable public transport system, as well as a low cost of living, and is packed with some of the world’s most top-rated restaurants, including 18 Michelin starred restaurants in a 25-kilometre radius.
Second place was awarded to Reykjavik, popular with people who wanted to experience Iceland’s rich culture, the social welfare system, and the incredible natural beauty of the country, whilst also providing a good work-life balance and its proximity to Europe.
At the other end of the list, Bogota and Cape Town were the next least desirable options for expats moving abroad. Bogota’s population only contains 0.3 per cent of expats making it a relatively untouched option for those moving abroad.
The capital of Columbia offers a much lower average salary of just £3,005 annually and is one of the more dangerous countries with only one in ten people feeling safe when walking at night.
Cape Town is much higher on life satisfaction index, but it has a very low life expectancy of just 63 years and a higher average rent of £506.
