Moving to Spain
Whether you are relocating to Spain for work, retirement, family or a change of lifestyle, ClickMoves can arrange a reliable door-to-door removal service from anywhere in the UK to destinations throughout mainland Spain and the Spanish islands.
We handle moves of all sizes, from boxes and personal belongings through to the contents of a complete home. Depending on the size of your shipment, your timescale and your requirements, we can arrange either a cost-effective groupage service or a dedicated direct removal.
Our team can also guide you through the customs requirements that apply when moving personal belongings from the UK to Spain following Brexit.
Removal services from the UK to Spain
ClickMoves offers flexible removal options depending on the size of your move, your budget and how quickly you need your belongings delivered.
Groupage removals to Spain
For smaller moves and customers who are flexible about delivery dates, our groupage service is usually the most economical option. Your belongings share vehicle space with other customers moving in the same direction, so you only pay for the space your shipment requires.
This service is particularly suitable for boxes, personal effects, student moves, part-household moves and smaller furniture shipments.
Direct and exclusive removals to Spain
For larger household moves, or when you need greater control over collection and delivery dates, we can arrange a dedicated vehicle exclusively for your belongings.
A direct removal travels from your UK collection address towards your destination in Spain without your shipment being consolidated with other customers’ goods. This provides faster transit times and greater flexibility when planning your move.
Customs requirements when moving from the UK to Spain
Since the UK left the European Union, household goods and personal belongings moving from the UK to Spain are subject to customs formalities.
If you are transferring your normal residence from the UK to Spain, your used household goods and personal belongings can normally qualify for relief from import duties and VAT, provided the relevant conditions are met. Spanish customs rules generally require you to have lived outside the EU for at least 12 months before the move, and qualifying personal belongings should normally have been in your possession and used by you for at least six months before the transfer of residence.
You will normally need supporting documentation showing your previous residence in the UK and your new residence in Spain, together with identification and a detailed inventory of the belongings being imported. The customs declaration for the import is made using the relevant Spanish customs procedure.
ClickMoves will explain the documentation required for your particular move and work with our Spanish partners to help ensure the customs paperwork is prepared correctly before your belongings are transported.
Certain goods are treated differently. In particular, alcohol and tobacco are excluded from the normal transfer-of-residence relief, while commercial goods and some professional equipment are also subject to different rules.
Collection and delivery throughout Spain
ClickMoves can arrange collection from addresses throughout the UK and delivery to destinations across mainland Spain, including Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Málaga, Seville and the Costa del Sol.
We also arrange removals to popular coastal and inland destinations throughout Spain, including areas frequently chosen by British residents such as the Costa Blanca, Costa Brava, Murcia and Andalusia.
Moves to the Balearic Islands, including Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza, can also be arranged, although transport arrangements and transit times differ from mainland Spain.
The Canary Islands have a different tax and customs regime from mainland Spain and require separate arrangements. If you are moving to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote or another Canary Island, we will advise you about the appropriate shipping and customs requirements.
For groupage moves, collection and delivery dates are coordinated around our scheduled European services. For direct and exclusive removals, we can usually offer much greater flexibility over the collection and delivery schedule.
How long do removals from the UK to Spain take?
Transit times depend on the size of your shipment, your collection and delivery locations, and whether you choose a groupage or direct removal service.
For groupage removals, your belongings travel as part of a shared load, so the schedule allows time for the consolidation of several customers’ shipments. We will give you an estimated collection and delivery window when preparing your quotation.
For direct and exclusive removals, transit is normally considerably faster because the vehicle is dedicated to your move and travels directly from the UK towards your destination in Spain.
Moves to the Balearic or Canary Islands generally require additional transit time compared with mainland Spain because of the onward sea transport involved.
We will always discuss the expected timescale with you before you book so that you can choose the service that best suits your plans.

Frequently asked questions about moving from the UK to Spain
Do I have to pay customs duty when moving my belongings to Spain?
If you are transferring your normal residence from the UK to Spain, your used household goods and personal belongings can normally qualify for relief from import duties and VAT, provided you meet the relevant Spanish customs conditions. We will advise you about the documentation required for your move.
Can ClickMoves move a small shipment to Spain?
Yes. You do not need to be moving the contents of an entire home. Our groupage service is particularly suitable for smaller shipments such as boxes, personal effects, furniture and part-household moves.
Can you deliver to the Spanish islands?
Yes. We can arrange removals to the Balearic Islands, including Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza, as well as the Canary Islands. Island moves require different transport arrangements, and the Canary Islands have separate customs and tax requirements.
Is groupage cheaper than a direct removal to Spain?
Generally, yes. Groupage reduces costs by allowing several customers to share space on the same vehicle. A direct or exclusive removal costs more but provides greater flexibility and is normally faster.
How far in advance should I arrange my move to Spain?
As much notice as possible is helpful, particularly for larger household moves or where you need specific collection dates. However, we can often accommodate moves at shorter notice depending on vehicle availability and the size of your shipment.
