How To Use Virtual Viewings To Your Advantage

Posted on June 17, 2020

If you’re considering relocating overseas, or have already started the process of an international move, you might be finding the sudden surge in virtual property viewings is very handy.

While viewing homes virtually has been possible for some time, it’s only with the recent Covid-19 pandemic that it’s becoming the norm, at least for a first viewing of a home.

As an article for Wired pointed out, many estate agents have been getting on board with the idea, as evidenced by the surge in sales of Matterport’s 3D cameras, which allow someone to show a property in 360 degrees. The news provider cited a Financial Times story which said sales of the camera climbed by 630 per cent in March.

Many people will, of course, want to see a property in the flesh before they commit to a purchase, but virtual viewings can save time and effort and, of course, if you’re moving across countries they also make it possible to choose a home without a long international trip.

As Mark Hayward, chief executive of NAEA Propertymark, told the news provider: “It at least lets people make an initial judgement of the property rather than having to physically visit the property and walk around, spending a lot of time.”

If you’re planning an international move, virtual viewings can help you not only find somewhere to live when you relocate, but could also widen the pool of people you’re able to reach if you’re intending to sell or rent your current home.

An article for Simply Business recommended that, if you’re going to offer virtual property viewings, you should plan your route around your home in advance, make sure it’s well lit and that you’ve cleaned and tidied beforehand.
